As a Homeschool Consultant, I will:

• Guide the parents through meeting state requirements.
• Help the parents choose curricula that fits the family's philosophy* and preferred teaching method, AND the child's unique learning style.
• Encourage struggling parents and help them identify and/or eliminate the source of the struggle. (Note: This does not include making diagnoses of special needs.)
• Help parents with modifications for special needs when necessary.
• Help parents decide on a method of measuring student progress.
• Assist parents with progress reports, if needed. (Also called grade auditing)
• Assist parents with lesson planning, organizing and record keeping, if needed.**
• Act as an "accountability partner" for the parent or student, if needed.

A Homeschool Consultant does not teach your children. That is the job of the parent. Nor should a Homeschool Consultant tell you what curricula to purchase or what teaching style to use. If God has called you to homeschool your child(ren), He has given the decision of how to teach them to you. Don't give it away to anyone, no matter how experienced!

*NOTE: You do not have to be of a specific religious belief (or any religious belief) to use our services. The parents' rights to educate their child how they see fit are respected by Oikouros regardless of belief system. **Use of our services does not guarantee that you will not be challenged by your local school board. It is up to you to comply with local and state laws. Oikouros does not provide legal advice or assistance. We will not accompany you to court. If you live in a particularly hostile area, you may wish to join an organization such as the Homeschool Legal Defense Association.
